Biography

Dr. Irawan W. Kusuma is a researcher in the field of natural product chemistry. He was graduated from Mulawarman University, Indonesia and Ehime University, Japan. His works are related with exploration of tropical plants having biological activities and discovery of antimicrobial, antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory compounds from plant resources. He has established several research projects funded by domestic and international funding source, including Indonesian Ministry of National Education (DIKTI), Toray Foundation, the Tanabe Foundation (Japan), Ecosystem Research and Development Bureau (ERDB, Philippines), Japan Society for promoting Sciences (JSPS-Japan), and Monbukagakusho/MEXT (Japan). His works were reported in several international journals published by Springer, De Gruyter and Elsevier and in “Materials, Chemicals and Energy from Forest Biomass”, an Americal Chemical Society book. Along with his colleagues, he has registered three patents for application of three medicinal plant species as skin whitening agent. He is presently acted as a lecturer and the laboratory head of Forest Products Chemistry, Mulawarman University.

Research Interest

Exploration of plant having potential biological activities, Antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of plant source, Tyrosinase and xanthine oxidase activities of medicinal plants, Isolation and identification of active compounds from plant source.
