Indira Padmalayam, Ph.D. heads the Lead Generation Biology Laboratory which is focused on providing biological assay support for medicinal chemistry SAR/hit-to-lead efforts for drug discovery programs at Southern Research which span a broad range of therapeutic areas such as oncology, infectious, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases. She joined Southern Research in August 2010 as a Program Manager of the Strategic Initiatives Plan (SIP), an internal research funding program, and Head of the Assay Development laboratory. Dr. Padmalayam received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta in 1996, after which she completed a three-year postdoctoral study at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, investigating pathogenic mechanisms of the Bartonellae species. She then moved to Reddy US Therapeutics (RUS), a subsidiary of Dr. Reddy’s Pharmaceuticals, based in Atlanta, GA. At RUS, she served as Associate Director and a Project Leader in their Drug Discovery program, and played a key role in early drug discovery and hit-to-lead efforts. Dr. Padmalayam is also a member of the Center for Neuromolecular Research at Southern Research.
