Hugh Smyth is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas at Austin. He is also an Adjunct Associate Scientist at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, Albuquerque, NM and Chief Scientist of Respira Therapeutics. He has a Pharmacy and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He has been a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and at the University of New Mexico. He was the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) New Investigator award winner for Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies in 2007. He also received the PhRMA Foundation New Investigator Award in pharmaceutics in 2007. He has made several invited lectures with the pharmaceutical industry, professional societies, and academic institutions. He has also served as an ad-hoc member of several NIH and NSF study sections, is a member of several editorial boards for journals and professional societies. He has approximately 40 peer reviewed publications, editor of 2 books, numerous book chapters, and 12 patent applications.
