Dr. Gustavo F. Gonzales is Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Philosophy and Researcher from the High Altitude Research Institute at the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in Lima, Peru. He is Doctor in Sciences and Doctor in Medicine with a post-doctorate in Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia. His fields of research are the Endocrinology and Reproduction at High Altitudes. Actually is President of the Scientific Committee of the Peruvian National Academy of Medicine, and the General Secretary of the Peruvian National Academy of Sciences. He is visiting professor at the IMPLAD in Beijing, China. He is coordinator in Peru of the Collaborative Center of the Human Reproduction Program from the World Health Organization. He is also Principal Investigator in Peru of the International Training and Research in Environmental and Occupational Health (ITREOH) (NIH Research Grant #5-D43TW005746-04). His research activity is devoted to the maternal-child health particularly to populations at high altitudes. He is studying the impact of hemoglobin on pregnancy and prenatal health as well in adaptation to high altitudes. He was Director of the High Altitude Institute Research from 1989 to 2005, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Philosophy from 1999 to 2005 and Dean from 2005 to 2008. Dr. Gonzales is author of more than 250 publications including 9 books and 13 chapters of books. He has received 44 Awards during professional career.
