Biography

Girija S Singh is a distinguished professor and researcher in the area of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Professor Singh, working as Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Botswana, received his Ph. D. degree from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India, completing his doctoral thesis on the reactions of diazoalkanes and diazoketones with imines, amines and hydrazones in October, 1984. Since then he has occupied teaching and research positions in various universities such as BHU, Osaka University, Japan, University of Zambia, and University of Botswana. Professor Singh has authored eighty publications in books and in peer-reviewed journals that have been cited over 600 times. He has presented his research work in many international conferences in India, Japan, Canada, Russia, South Africa, and Tanzania. His research interests include the study of synthesis and reactivity of biologically important heterocycles especially Beta-lactams, reactions of ketenes and carbenoids from diazo compounds, metal-catalyzed oxidations and organic chemistry education. He has supervised many undergraduate and graduate level students in these areas. Professor Singh is the member of the editorial boards of over half a dozen international journals of organic and medicinal chemistry, and reviewer for many reputable international journals. He is Life Member of the Chemical Research Society of India and Member of the American Chemical Society.

Research Interest

The study of synthesis and reactivity of biologically important heterocycles especially Beta-lactams, reactions of ketenes and carbenoids from diazo compounds, metal-catalyzed oxidations and organic chemistry education.
