Biography

Gianfranco Calogiuri is a specialist in Allergy and Clinical Immunology since 1992 working at the Pneumology Department of Civil Hospital Ninetto Melli in San Pietro Vernotico (Brindisi) as Consultant in the Asthma Center. After his specialty he has got a Master in Pediatic Allergy and Immunology at the Department of Pediatry of Bari University. He has received a PhD in Immunology from Bari University in 2012. His doctoral thesis focussed the immunological status of patients with recent tracheotomy. He is a member of European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) since 2003 and an active member of ENDA (European Network for Drug Allergy), taking part in ENDA annual meeting. Besides the articles published on Italian scientific journals, he published 38 articles on international scientific journals and a book contribution. Actually he also collaborates with the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Bari University to investigate the pathomechanisms of drug allergy.

Research Interest

His main fields of interest are the drug induced hypersensitivity reactions, either IgE mediated or T cell mediated, their diagnosis, management and therapy. Investigations on drug allergy risk factors. Development of new diagnostic strategies for drug allergy in vivo and in vitro and the pathologic and autoimmunitary aspects of drug induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions as Steven-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. Allergic cutaneous diseases as atopic dermatitis, urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis take a particular interest for their relationship with drug induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions.
