Bramanandam Manavathi
Associate Professor
University of Hyderabad, India
Dr Manavathi received Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from Sri Krishnadevaraya University in 2002. Thereafter he joined University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA as a Postdoctoral Fellow and worked on understanding the molecular basis of breast cancer until 2007. In the same year, Dr Manavathi joined University of Hyderabad, India where he is now working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry. Dr Manavathi is also a visiting scientist of The Terry Fox Laboratory, Vancouver, Canada. He has been working in the field of cancer, specifically on breast cancer and ovarian cancer for more than a decade and made significant contributions to the field. Therefore, Dr Manavathi believes that mechanistic understanding of the functionality of oncogenes in the development of drug-resistant cancers is critical for rational approaches to combat this cancer. Now, his laboratory is extensively working on unraveling the molecular mechanisms involved in cancer cell migration, EMT and metastasis. He has obtained several national and international awards for his contributions in Science. He is the member of various national & international scientific societies. He received 2009-IYBA award, 2009-BOYSCAST fellow, 2012-Novartis-ICMR Cancer Award and Gold medal, etc. He has published ~ 35 research articles in different international journals of high impact and has attended several national and international conferences.
