Dr. Barbara Mann received her PhD from the University of Virginia and did postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin on phosphateregulated genes in Neurospora crassa. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia and has a joint appointment in the Department of Microbiology. Dr. Mann also serves as chair of the Institution Biosafety Committee and directs a biosafety level three laboratory.
Research interest in microbial pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions, with specific interest in adherence and invasion mechanisms for two pathogens, the bacteria Francisella tularensis, and the human parasite E. histolytica.
