Department of Microbiology
University of Massachusetts in Amherst, USA
Dr. Ashley Franks received his PhD at the Centre for Marine Bioinnovation in Microbiology from the University of New South Wales Australia in 2004. Currently he is working as an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst USA. He has authored more than 21 research articles and books and has made appearances in popular media. He has been honored with a Provice Chancellor Award for High Achievement and recognized as a Government of Ireland Fellow in Science Engineering and Technology.
His research interests cover interactions between organisms and surfaces including abiotic-biotic and biotic-biotic interactions. He has experience in the marine and agricultural biofilms but is current focusing on the microbial interactions with insoluble electron donors and acceptors in the subsurface. His interests cover genomics, proteomics, regulation and functional analysis of bacterial cells associated with the biofilm mode of life.
