Research Interest

To investigate the biologic mechanisms involved in neoplastic growth.
The research activity was oriented to define morphological and functional alterations in hematological neoplasia and gliomas . Main research interests during the last years were focused on the study of Egr-1 protein and its role in the control of cell apoptosis and proliferation .These studies applied to either human lymphocytes or CNS cells showing  the role for Egr-1 as gene able to regulate cell proliferation and apoptosis  in the EBV-positive lymphomas and, more recently, the glial tumors. The role for Egr-1 as apoptotic co-regulator in cerebellar granular cells was also demonstrated.Recently we have demonstrate a correlation between EGR1 expression and response to cisplatin in glioma primary cells. We have also demonstrated in collaboration with Prof A Tata and Prof F. Franciolini (University of Perugia)  the role of  M2 receptors in  gliomas and the involvement  of ion channel KCNN4 in the  glioma cell motility.
