Biography

Dr de la Garza Rodea has experience in Medical Affairs and has 15+ years of experience in stem cell biology, tissue regeneration, surgery, and cell transplantation, with expertise in the musculoskeletal system, wound healing, angiogenesis, and soft tissues. Dr de la Garza Rodea received her MD from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, Mexico) in 2004. During her medical training she assisted in Surgery I course for three years and worked as medical monitor on wound healing trials in collaboration with DeRoyal Inc. Dr de la Garza Rodea obtained her PhD from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC, Netherlands) in mesenchymal stem cells in skeletal muscle regeneration & wound healing in 2011. Dr de la Garza Rodea was a clinical fellow for three consecutive years at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland under the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) training program working on the project S1P pathways for muscle regeneration and muscular dystrophies (Oakland, CA). In 2015 Dr. de la Garza Rodea joined industry, working in translational research & clinical development for regenerative medicine at Genea Biocells and then in 2019 at HepaTX, in skeletal muscle and liver systems, respectively. In her subsequent position at Biosplice Therapeutics (previously Samumed), she led and oversaw crucial preclinical studies of a compound in Phase 3 for osteoarthritis before shifting to the Medical Affairs department where she created, managed, and executed the strategic medical communication & publication plan and served on the scientific review committee. She has a Medical Affairs Specialist certificate from the Accreditation Council for Medical Affairs (ACMA) and serves as Vice Chair of the Emerging Executives program at the SoCal chapter of Women in Bio (WIB).  Currently Dr de la Garza Rodea is the Medical Affairs Director of BrainXell Therapeutics Inc. She plays a key role in establishing surgical & clinical aspects of the cell therapy programs, cultivating and sustaining alliances with clinicians, and managing patient advocacy relationships. Furthermore, she works closely with the laboratory and other departments to coordinate cross-functional activities, including acquisition and processing of patient materials, and the logistics of product administration.
