Biography
Dr. Basnakian received his MD degree from Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy and the PhD and Doctor of Sciencesdegrees from Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Both of his dissertations were in Biochemistry in the field of DNA endonucleases. He then specialized in Toxicology and Cancer Research first in 1988-89 while being a postdoc at Boston Biomedical Research Institute and then in 1992-94 at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson Arkansas. Dr. Basnakian is now a tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His major area of expertise remains cytotoxic DNA endonucleases in tissue injury and cancer. He is an author of 70 peerreviewed articles and numerous reviews and a member of NIH VA and AHA Study Sections.
