Biography

I was born in a family that cherishes education and literature. My   mother was a university lecturer whilst my father was an accountant and a published writer of short stories. In 1993, I gained my BSc. in Computer Science. In 1994, I joined University of Essex to do my MSc, during which I was a Tutor Assistant. On completing my MSc in 1995, I started my PhD at Liverpool John Moores University. During my PhD research, I worked on a freelance basis as software development through the LJMU initiative (Business Bridge) and as Teaching Assistant at LJMU. At the same time, I had 9 national and international publications by the time I completed my research. In June 1998, I started as a full time lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) at De Montfort University I took on the post of senior lecturer at DMU Leicester Campus in Jan 2001. In 2002, I chaired my first special session on (Automated Reasoning: Perception and Emotion) at IASTED AIA2002 conference and subsequently I was a guest editor for a special issue on the topic in Informatica Journal (2003). My research on emotions modeling was being established especially in the context of cognitive agents and intelligent robots. Consequently, I started to develop robotics as teaching and research subject. In 2001, I was given faculty funding (approx. £8,800) to acquire robots for the purpose of teaching and research.

I am currently developing research plans to consolidate my research on Intelligent Agents with specific focus geared towards Digital Economy initiative and in the area of large scale knowledge rich distributed and complex systems, i.e. wireless and mobile sensor networks, eLearning, data grids, interactive media, human like interactive machines, and flexible agent-based architectures (Research).

I am leading and participating in collaborative research projects with a wide international network of colleagues many of whom are friends, as demonstrated by conference special sessions and journal special issues organized and my collaborative publications.
