Brian Robertson

Dr. Brian Robertson qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Cape Town in 1961, and as a psychiatrist and child psychiatrist at McGill University, Canada, in 1972. From 1973 to 2004 Brian was on the staff of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town, firstly at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, and from 1989 as Head of Department at Groote Schuur Hospital. Since retiring as Emeritus Professor in 2004, Brian has continued working as a child and adolescent psychiatrist in South Africa and Ireland, and has been actively involved in the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) and was a founder member of the African Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (AACAMH). Brian has also been actively involved with the World Federation for Mental Health and with several local NGO’s, as well as being visiting psychiatrist to the remote islands of St Helena and Tristan da Cunha.
